As of 2012, about 90 percent of the country’s major media companies were
owned by six corporations. Take a
moment. That's a lot to swallow in one gulp.
What is the consequence of this? We don't truly have independant media, as evidenced by the lack
of diversity in ownership and the obvious similarities in which the vast majority of large media takes one side of an issue or strongly
critizes only one political party. Given the number of extraorinarily close elections we've had, one would think the media would be more
representative of their constituents if they were truly independent. We don't truly have free media, either, as we have seen in
recent years where the government has leaned in heavily to influence Facebook, Twitter, and newspapers over what to censor or deemphasize.
What can you do about it? How do you communicate this idea to other people who disagree with the above statements without getting into a
heated arguement? People today who criticize media and the practice of censorship are perceived by many to be a recent phenomenon by those
who are "ALT-Right", and their views are automatically dismissed. To gently counter the idea that criticism of meda and censorship is either
just a recent phenomenon or it has only been observed by the far side of one political spectrum, we had the idea of creating a
line of clothing, bearing quotes from America's Founding Fathers and other great thinkers of yesteryear, with an emphasis on pointing out
the dangers of censorship as well as the duty to ALWAYS view media with a critical eye.
